- Going to the Head of the Class by Jane Porter (BusinessWeek 1/8/07) - Interesting article on the PhD Project, a "nonprofit that encourages minority business professionals to earn PhDs and go on to become professors."
- From Midwest to M.T.A., Pain From Global Gamble by Charles Duhigg and Carter Dougherty (NYT 11/2/03) - How did this financial crisis get to a point where it affects all of us? This article takes a very complicated mess and delivers an explanation the "Average Joe" can follow.
- The Long Way Home by Seth Harp (The Alcalde, October 2006) Seth Harp writes about a point of time when he was stationed in Iraq in 2005. It is a very well written and captivating story. It offers a fantastic account of what life was/is like for our soldiers stationed in Iraq. Yes, things have changed sice 2005. But the stress and the triumphs remain. Another similar article (Special Report: Recalling a Rescue by Anna Mulrine - U.S. News & World Report 3/24/08)
- Bosses Who Get It All Wrong - by Jack and Suzy Welch (BusinessWeek 7/23/07) "Blowhards. Jerks. Wimps. How inept leaders can derail a thriving enterprise." The Welch's tell it like it is and hold no punches.

"There is no substitute for being one of the most well prepared in a meeting... To take pride in knowing more than the others in a room." - Ben Barnes

"Symbolism matters in foreign policy" Professor Elspeth Rostow (LBJ School of Public Affairs)
"...[N]othing builds a stronger case for holding employees to a high standard than a boss who holds himself to even higher ones." - Rudy Giuliani (from his book Leadership)

- Professor Elspeth Rostow (1917 - 2007) Mentor, friend, awe-inspiring, brilliant. These terms and more represent what Professor Rostow meant to her students and our greater society. (U.S. Institute of Peace)
- David Gergen - As a regular analysyt and commentator on all things political, Mr. Gergen continues to offer an impressive view on the staus of U.S. and world affairs. As an advisor to four U.S. Presidents, Mr. Gergen's perspectives are unique and open minded, his comments are well thought out and delivered evenly.
- Ann Richards - In 2002, Ann Richards was walking out of the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library on her way to her next appointment. Next door, Admiral Bobby Inman (who was moderating a discussion at the LBJ School of Public Affairs) spotted Governor Richards and had a promptly sent a request for her to come in and say a few words to a group of graduate students. Without blinking an eye, she turned to her assistant and said "call my next appointment and tell them I will be late." Governor Richards proceeded to thrill the group for 20 minutes with stories and a hard core policy discussion. Normally BFT does not post articles in this section, but The Economist does a tremendous job in summarizing a woman who cared so much about leading, future leaders, and Texas.
